Sarnika A Influencer Culture and Mental Health
Influencer culture on social media is posting certain trends or certain challenges and showing others how they should be living or things to do that would make them fit in more or be like others. It negatively influences you because it makes people think that there’s a certain way they have to act or a certain way they have to dress in order to be accepted by others. If you don’t act that way, or if you decide to dress however you want, then you’re not going to fit in and you’re not going to have friends. Obviously that negatively influences your mental health.
Can you talk about how we can try and deal with this because everyone’s on social media and people definitely follow influencers.
I don’t think the answer is changing something on social media because influencers will always be there, but rather gaining more self confidence and being more secure with yourself and knowing that you can be different and you can still fit in and be happy. Even if you are different from the rest of the group or you dress differently or you talk differently, that you will still find people that will appreciate and love you for exactly who you are.
